By this project, “Philosophy of Religion in the Classical Islamic Intellectual Traditions: Problems, Texts and Contexts” we want to make theories of major medieval Muslim philosophers, theologians, Sufis and legal scholars (Faqīh) concerning philosophical issues included in the area of philosophy of religion available to contemporary readers. Thus we want to enrich modern discussions in philosophy of religion, which has been usually associated with the western philosophy with reference to the Christian religious tradition.
The edition of the anthology, we hope, will contribute to incorporate the products of medieval Islamic thought into discussions in contemporary philosophy of religion, by taking those texts into account not only as historical data, but also for their philosophical value.
